Traditional Practices for Miscarriage Care
This handout shares some of the traditional practices that may support miscarriage care. It is not a manual or protocol, but rather a collection of ideas and offerings—meant to inspire the kind of care and support you might seek within your own circle or community. Inside, you'll find guidance on creating space for rest and emotional processing, herbal teas and baths for warming and release, perineal steaming, sobada (traditional bodywork), and the use of temazcal when accessible. It also includes postpartum care recommendations, such as nourishing foods, bone-closing rituals (cerradas), and meaningful ways to honor the baby’s spirit and integrate grief. A gentle prayer script is included to support emotional healing and spiritual connection, along with safety guidelines and information about when to seek medical care.
